Just a 30 minute drive from Kalkan brings you to the pretty natural harbour town of Kas.
Once a Greek settlement during Ottoman times, Kas is very much a Turkish working town where tourists and locals alike mix effortlessly together against the backdrop of the beautiful Tauros Mountains.
The meandering narrow streets and bazaars of the old town provide the perfect tonic for those looking to escape the heat of the sun. The atmosphere and appearance here is traditionally Turkish, So too down at the harbour front in one of the numerous tea gardens, where old men sip glasses of black tea and discuss politics whilst the call to prayer rings out. Here fisherman can be seen in their colourful boats going about their work as they have done for time immemorial.
Kas is also a centre for sporting enthusiasts. Activities include paragliding, scuba diving, trekking and kayaking. For the less energetic, Kas has 2 pebble beaches and a couple of beach clubs to choose from. The wonderful beach of Kaputas is just a 20 minute drive away.
Kas in ancient times was known as Antiphellos and the modern town is sited on this ancient Lycian settlement. Evidence of times gone by can be glimpsed throughout the town, including the well preserved theatre and a marvellous carved Lycian sarcophagus.
The road out of Kas lazily ascends towards Antalya leaving behind a glorious panorama over Kas and the Greek island of Meis. 10 minutes from here brings you to the pretty traditional village of Cukurbag, where time seems to have stood still, and to our wonderful Villa Kurt
