To the West of Chania, the main road follows the coast. Over the years the area from the town itself until the laidback resort of Tavronitis, has seen quite a bit of development and it is here that you will discover chic boutique shops, restaurants, apartments, hotels and a fabulous sandy beach.
However, if you prefer a sample of real Crete, then if you take a diversion inland soon after leaving Chania town, the road slowly winds its way into the mountains until you reach the attractive village of Panos Stalos. Here the traditional life continues with the addition of a few visitors from the road below.
There are a few simple tavernas offering local cuisine, often on a terrace with stunning views of Chania and the sea in the distance. This is a great place to base yourself and discover the wildness of the White Mountains; just a few kilometres further inland from the village and you enter the heart of the magnificent Cretan countryside.
Back on the main road, further west, Tavronitis is a contrast to the livelier resorts of Platanias and Geremi. In fact, the pebble and sandy beach at Tavronitis is relatively peaceful. By the beach there are a selection of tavernas selling fresh fish and local dishes. The sleepy fishing village of Kolimbari is just a few kilometres away and the stunning beach of Falasarna is less than 40 minutes away by car.
Both these areas offer our clients the opportunity to be based in quiet surroundings with easy access to Chania and the breath taking countryside nearby.
