Marathi, located on the Akrotiri Peninsula close to Chania, has the benefit of a pretty sandy beach with clear waters and wonderful views across Souda Bay towards the dramatic White Mountains.
Just behind the sandy beach are a row of simple tavernas and cafés specialising in freshly caught fish: Marathi is a typical Greek fishing village that remains undiscovered by the masses, yet close to the sophistication and liveliness of old Chania town.
