Elafonissi and Livadia

Elafonisi, located on the far west coast, once used to be something of a secret: a mysterious beautiful lagoon and island too far for most to reach from the resorts of the north-east.

Things have slightly changed and over the years more visitors continue to discover Elafonisi. However, its beauty has not changed: red coral sand and a tropical island surrounded by white and turquoise sea. In some ways having more in common with the Caribbean than the Aegean, Elafonisi is great for children as the beach in all areas is shallow and the island is easy to reach often with the sea no more than waist high.

Livadia is so small you will struggle to find it on the map. No more than an hamlet with just a simple cafeteria, Livadia is isolated and beautiful. Elafonisi is a 20 minute drive away along the coast and the inland mountain village of Kefali with its selection of rural tavernas just a 30 minute drive.

Along this coastline, one can begin to unwind and relax in this beautiful and unspoilt corner of west Crete.
